A Stray Car in the Silence

29 June, 2021

This one-page comic was made for the class, Graphic Novels and Storytelling. With this piece, I wanted to tell a fairly bare-bones story of a desert-dwelling survivor witnessing something that definitely should not exist. Stylistically, I wanted this comic to emulate certain aspects of pulp comics, like their characteristic grit, heavily textured pencil-work and inking, and punchy prose which doesn’t shy away from going over the top—and in many cases, actively sought it out. I have made use of such loud, grandiose language in the comic’s final panel. Through the comic, I attempted to explore themes of isolation and hope(as well as its abandonment). The colour palette tries to stay true to the desert setting, employing almost entirely warm colours.
